There's a few considerations for that. I plan to put an AOD into my car at some point and I've been told I need to do the following to swap from an FMX to an AOD:

shorten driveshaft about an inch
linkage should fit ok but might need new bushings
kickdown rod goes away, replace with Lokar AOD cable
make sure converter matches pilot hole on crank
make sure converter bolts to flexplate*
flip transmission mount upside down
it should clear the crossmember ok
you have to change the front yoke on your driveshaft to an AOD one
cooler lines may be different sizes, like 1/2 or 5/8, use adapters or rubber line at the trans end
if you care about the column shifter indicator, just rub off the letters and print your own
don't forget to plug/remove the vacuum line since AOD's don't have a modulator

*or use flexplate for 351W/AOD Crown Vic, has to be 28oz balanced not 50oz like a late 302

that's all I know...SO FAR...still learning more every day
