I don't think they exist in the aftermarket, and I couldn't find any Mustang or other car make springs that are close enough to use for our cars. I ended up getting a set of springs used from another member.

How soon do you need a set? I'm pretty sure I have an extra set of hinges with springs in my garage.

has anyone ever heard of any kind of heat treatment to possibly revitalize the springs? i.e. like how certain heat treatments can harden or change the molecular structure of a piece of metal...

oh i'm sure it could be done! but you may need to know the correct amount of temper and maybe the carbon count as well
![]() i have NOS springs for mine but when i had the hinges and springs ceramic coated... they stretched the springs to coat in between and also bake them, i'm afraid they lost a little temper ![]() ![]() |

With the number of 77-79 mid-size Fords and Mercurys out there that probably use the same springs (Ranchero, T-bird, LTD II, Cougar, etc), you'd think there would be enough demand for someone to manufacturer new springs. Do 73-76 interchange as well?

All should be the same 72 and on but the early years (72 and 73) used a flat style spring instead of round (edges of spring were flat) After 73 I believe they were all round. Mustangs 71-73 used two types of springs also. The cars with functional ram air plenums (bolted under the hood) used the flat style rest used round. Apparently the flat style was a heavier load spring. Maybe Ford switched suppliers in 74 and they didn't need to use a different style spring or maybe they figured out how what spring load type worked for all. Not sure. Maybe some of you guys can take a look at your spring and report back and your spring type and year.
