Ok, here’s a question…….if i’m reading things right, and I think the ‘69 Torino is based on a ‘69 mustang platform———————will the 69/70 mustang bucket seats bolt into the ‘69 Torino?

That's a great possibility Dave. The seat track is the special part, get that and see if the bolt pattern will accept most OEM seats. You could put tons of various models on those seat tracks if they do match.

alright…….does anyone have a ‘69 Torino bucket seat already out of the car so they could take some careful measurements for all 4 holes? I have a set of ‘69/‘70 bucket seats, so I can measure here……

Actually the Mustang is based on the Fairlane, but the Fairlane bench seat cars don't always have the bucket seat supports in the floor pan. Also applies to 66-69 Falcon.
Platform was modified for Mustang, so some things are different.

I believe that the '69 torino is 2 and a half inches wider from the drivers side door to the passenger side door, than the '69 and '70 mustang. The 69 torino is also 3 and a half inches longer from the front bumper to the rear bumper than the 69 and 70 mustang.
So the mustang seat bases might be too short in width to mount onto the torino seat frames. And the torino seat bases are probably longer in length from front to back compared to the mustang seats. But you can make or find brackets to mount the mustang seats onto the torino seat frames. I doubt they will be a direct fit.

turns out my mustang seats don’t have the tracks/base assemblies on them so I STILL can’t compare. I guess I’ll take the assemblies off of my torino sweats and see how much would be involved in swapping them on a workbench

Dave, I used Foxbody mustang seats on the GTS. Foxbody compared to factory Torino, the track width is 3" narrower compared to OEM 72-76 Torino buckets. I made simple spacer plates using 3" long plates. 2 holes drilled 1" on center with one stud welded so I could bolt to the foxbody seat, and then bolt to the OEM torino seat tracks.
Been that way for many years. As are as the pre-72, Ford liked to use similar structural items like the seat frames and adapt different tracks. If you ever looked at the 72-73 highback GTS buckets, the structure of the seat frame is remarkably similar to 70, and 71-73 high back Mustang buckets. |

Are the Fox Mustang seats about the same actual size, width? I ask because a late 80's Mark VII seat is really nice if you can find them. I have a friend with one spare pair, and plan to put those into my 92 Mark VII. I could use my old 91 seats from a prior car, similar but different.

Fox body and Mark 7 seats are the same.
Mark 7 seats as far as I can tell use the exact same foam and lower that the 1984 SVO mustang uses. If you look in my 17 year barn nap build blog, I have details on recovering Mark 7 seats and how they were the same as my previous 1988 Mercury Cougar XR7 seats. I forgot. The SVO and Mark 7 seat lowers use a different bolster. Supposed to be adjustable, m7’s are power I believe. I have never bothered to power mine up after over a decade.

Thanks, those look like a great fit, and the bolt pattern looks workable. The pre-1990 Mark VII seats have the adjustable bolsters. They are a little more comfortable than the 1990-92 seats, which have no separate front bolster. This was from 1996 in my first LSC SE, the almost white interior(fire and ice edition it's nicknamed).  |
