Anyone know the brake offset for a Ford 9" small bearing rear?
I saw 2.36, 2.5 and 2.66 mentioned on the forum, but really nothing confirmed. |

This may help. says that there are two different offsets:
![]() Not sure if this helps or not. Are you looking to do rear disc's? I guess I should have measured my offsets when I did my rear disc conversion. Additional info: It is said that most small bearing housings have the 2.50" offset.

Thinking about it. Looks like either the 2.5 or 2.66.
2.5 spacers come with the kit from Jegs. 2.66 does not. In fact, most kits seem to come with the 2.36 or 2.5, not the 2.66 except Wilwoods. Thinking about taking a chance, BUT I can't even find 2.66 spacers if I needed them. |

Todd, I saw your "Additional Info".
May just go for it. Worst that can happen is I have to search for the 2.66 spacers or have some made locally. Thanks again.... Scott |

Scott,
I don't know if you have researched it yet, but '98-'02 CV rear disc caliper brackets are almost a direct bolt-on to a small bearing housing( I went this route when I installed my rear disc conversion), every wearable part can be easily found at a local parts store(instead of a special order or aftermarket specific part). The CV rear disc caliper brackets also have an emergency brake which fits inside the rotor "hat". Just a thought. I took pics of my conversion if this is an option for you. I'm always glad to help if I can. Good luck, in whichever route you take to install your rear disc conversion. Todd

Spacers for the back of the bearing housing flange to mount the caliper? The bolt on OEM rout is never a bad bet. Todd seemed to have a pretty good option. If not I do have the measurements for all of it somewhere, just gota find the file sometime.

Well, actually, I went ahead and ordered the kit from Jegs after my last post ($387 shipped)
I think I did see some info on the CV brakes. I think it was mentioned in the same thread that was also talking about the conversion done by Ford Muscle I believe which had the PDF files of doing the conversion. Billy, yes, I was talking about the spacers that would put the caliper in track with the rotor. We'll see how it all works out. Thanks again guys! |

Never a bad idea to install brand new parts. Wilwood makes great, reliable brake parts, so you should be more than happy with your decision to purchase their product(s). Take/post pics of your conversion if possible. Make sure you get a 4 wheel disc proportioning valve and a 4 wheel disc master cylinder.

Yes, that MC looks to be for a Lincoln/T-bird(mid 70's) that had 4 wheel disc, it will work good. IIRC, it has a 1 1/8" bore. I did not see the prop valve you were referring to, I used a typical aftermarket 4 wheel disc prop valve(based on a GM design-
, but it does work quite well) I purchased off of Ebay, similar to this:The only issue I had was the brake warning light plug has a single terminal, our intermediate's have a 2 terminal plug, EZ fix. I took a 16ga spade connector and plugged the spade end into both sockets of my factory plug and opened the other end (where a typical wire would be crimped) to fit the terminal of the aftermarket warning light switch. I did this as to not cut off the factory plug and still retain the action of the warning circuit. Sorry for the long post. Hope this helps in some way. Todd

I haven't done too much looking for the pv. From what I've seem not too much of a choice. They all seem to have the one prong. Have to do more looking. I like how you solved the 1 to 2 terminal problem.
At least I never had brake fluid in the lines. All complete, but now big changes to the front and rear.
This weekends project..at least I hope if all arrives. |

Excellent tip! Funny, I've been looking for proportional valves tonight. Good timing on your post
. Now how does this match up with the original sized fittings. Not that it's that important. From what I've read chances would be pretty slim for the fittings to be all the same size as the disc/drum proportional valve....just have to make it happen From the looks of it, you hadn't installed it yet but didn't know if you had checked them out yet. |

Now Scott, Do you actually think Ford would allow it to be that easy
![]() If any flaring of the lines are needed/required, this tool makes flaring brake lines enjoyable, I actually look forward to flaring lines now. I got it from Eastwood and IMO, it's worth every penny. Hope this helps. Todd

Allan - thanks for the link. I've bought from them before.
As soon as I get this, I'll install and let you know how it goes
Todd. I looked at the chart. So I should look at the disc/drum compared to the disc/disc (Lincoln) since the 79 chart is the same as the 75 (which that proportional valve is for 1975 Mercury (D5) If so, looks like the 'secondary' ports would be different 3/8 to 7/16 - adapter <- I think this is right 9/16 to 5/8 - couldn't find one OR, put new fittings on the line. I have a flaring tool, but it doesn't work good. It did for most of the time I was building my C10 but now it just pushed the tube out the other end. I think it's an Astro. I'll have to check into this one. Would like to have another one... My brake lines on the Montego GT are SS. That would be cool if that tool worked on those lines. If not, I'll get an adapter fitting. A man can never have too many tools lol |

When I installed my aftermarket PV, it had the same outlet sizes as my stock 9/16 rear brake fitting (a big plus) the rear inlet size was different (stock disc/drum uses 3/8 for both, the aftermarket disc/disc uses 3/8 front and 7/16 rear). I went hydroboost and Corvette MC, so I already knew I would have fluid line issues between the MC and PV. I solved this by purchasing flexible stainless brake lines and brake fitting adapters from these folks:
http://www.technafitstore.com/ , great products at incredible prices compared to other stainless flex line suppliers. I purchased AN adapters that screwed into the MC outlet ports (1/2 and 9/16) and also adapters that screwed into the PV's inlet ports (3/8 and 7/16). The -3 flex lines were 8-10" with a 90 degree fitting on one end and a straight fitting on the other to ease installation. Here is a couple pics of the Corvette MC and Astro van hydroboost I installed in my Ranchero, you can see the MC's AN outlet adapters, stainless flex lines and aftermarket PV: This pic was taken during the "mock-up" process. Hope this helps. Todd

If you were closer I would definitely lend the tool to you to try out before you purchased one(it works slick). I have heard many times over the years, that flaring stainless hard lines is a real B!%^#, as they work harden. I have only used steel lines for my flaring needs so not sure how true the stories are.

Thinking of getting one of those.
Looks like K-tool 70081 I know with my new rear disc brakes, I'll have to change the way the brake lines are on both sides. ![]() Nice looking (and different) setup you have there. |

Scott,
Thank you for the positive comments. I will tell you, using hydroboost and 2K Crown Vic rotors/calipers, my Ranchero will stop on a dime and give me 9 cents back
