I recently purchased a new tire changer and wheel balancer, so that I could do more of the tire maintenance myself.
I researched these extensively and found a wide range of options from low > high priced. I was originally going to go w/ a low end model from Amazon or similar but found the Derek Weaver equipment had a lot of good reviews.
I went with the following equipment and with completing my first tire change & balancing, am very pleased with the purchase and end result.
Company: Derek Weaver Website: https://www.derekweaver.com/
Customer Service: +, as I was researching units, I contacted their customer service several times and they helped me with all of the questions I had.
Delivery: +, very fast, shipping is free. They used Old Dominion and provided free lift-gate service.
1) Tire changer model: Weaver W-898XS Tire Changer / Assist Arm Combo (W-PL240 Power Assist Arm)
- I went with the larger unit so I could do my truck's tires with no issue.
- I also added the W-PL240 Power Assist Arm, this helps with applying pressure dismounting tires or if you need help w/ reseating the bead.
- The model is built extremely well, very durable.
- The assembly is minimal.
- The operator's manual wasn't the best, but the videos they put together are great. I ended up just using the videos.
- Uses standard 110v power.
- Note: you do need an air compressor
2) Tire balancer : Weaver W-937-40 Wheel Balancer
- I went with the W937-40 model primarily due to space restrictions. The unit with a hood uses the identical computer, but takes up a lot more real estate.
- Uses standard 110v power.
I replaced my first set of tires and balanced them last evening. It was a really easy process.
I see where this equipment really simplifies the process and will be working on my next vehicle in the near future.
For tires, I ordered through Tire Rack.com; I used them for the Torino and now camper. Very easy to order.
